T
he BHARATPOL Portal, a cutting-edge digital platform designed to expedite international assistance for law enforcement agencies, was officially launched by Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, on January 7, 2025, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This transformative platform aims to revolutionize India's approach to tackling transnational crime by promoting global cooperation and facilitating real-time information sharing between Indian Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and INTERPOL.
One of the portal's key features is its ability to streamline the process of issuing Red Notices and other INTERPOL alerts, significantly improving the efficiency of efforts to combat international crimes.
The BHARATPOL Portal was developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which also serves as India’s National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL.
Accessible via the official CBI website, the portal consists of five essential modules: Connect, INTERPOL Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources. These modules work together to simplify the flow of critical law enforcement data.
At the Central, State, and Union Territory levels, the portal facilitates coordination through INTERPOL Liaison Officers (ILOs), who work closely with Unit Officers (UOs) such as Superintendents of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Branch Heads within their jurisdictions.
Previously, communication between the CBI, ILOs, and UOs relied on traditional methods like letters, emails, and faxes, often causing delays in processing vital information.
The Connect module in BHARATPOL now allows Indian law enforcement agencies to operate as an extension of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in New Delhi, ensuring seamless and swift coordination.
By integrating state police forces, central agencies, and INTERPOL into a single centralized platform, BHARATPOL ensures a real-time exchange of critical data for criminal investigations, improving the speed and accuracy of law enforcement responses.
The launch of BHARATPOL significantly strengthens India’s capacity to combat the rising tide of international crimes such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, financial crimes, human trafficking, and terrorism — crimes that transcend borders and demand coordinated, swift action.
This platform equips law enforcement agencies to tackle these complex, global challenges more effectively and efficiently.
