The 54th Kerala State Film Awards were unveiled on August 16, 2024, at 4 p.m. during a press conference at the secretariat chamber.
This year’s selection process proved to be particularly rigorous due to a record-breaking number of submissions — approximately 160 films, the highest ever received in the history of the Kerala State Film Awards. The films spanned various genres, from commercial to arthouse.
"Aadujeevitham," a poignant portrayal of human resilience amidst profound adversity, stood out by securing nine awards. It earned the top honors with Best Director for Blessy and Best Actor for Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Additionally, the film won Best Popular Film, Best Adapted Screenplay for Blessy, Best Cinematography for K.S. Sunil, Special Jury Award (actor) for K.R. Gokul, Best Sound Mixing for Resul Pookutty and Sarath Mohan, Best Makeup Artist for Ranjith Ambady, and Best Processing Lab/Colourist for Vaishal Shiva Ganesh.
Jeo Baby’s "Kaathal The Core," known for its sensitive portrayal of homosexuality, received awards for Best Film and Best Story.
Urvashi and Beena R. Chandran shared the acting accolades. Urvashi was recognized for her subtle portrayal of a woman coping with the aftermath of her son’s death in "Ullozhukku," while Beena R. Chandran was honored for her role in "Thadavu," directed by Fazil Razak, where she navigates a series of unfortunate events.
