The 16th season of the Indian Premier League, a franchise-based professional Twenty20 cricket league in India was held from March 31 to May 28, this year. The IPL is the most popular and lucrative cricket league in the world.
It was established in 2007 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The tournament follows a round-robin and knockout format, where each team plays against the others in a league stage, and the top teams advance to the playoffs. The playoffs consist of eliminator matches, qualifiers, and ultimately the grand final. The team that emerges victorious in the final is crowned the IPL champion for that season.

Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title after defeating the defending champions Gujarat Titans by five wickets (DLS method) in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As a result, it tied a record set by the Mumbai Indians (MI).
