The 94th Academy Awards were held Monday, March 27, 2022, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The award presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), is the most prestigious and sought-after honor in the sphere of entertainment worldwide.
The event was hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes, marking the first time the award presentation has had several hosts since Anne Hathaway and James Franco co-hosted the 83rd edition in 2011.
'CODA,' an Apple TV drama that was a dark horse at the Oscars, made history on Sunday by becoming the first movie from a major streaming service to win an Oscar for best picture.
Troy Kotsur, who won the Academy Award for best supporting actor, became the first deaf person to do so. Marlee Matlin, who also appeared in 'CODA,' was the first deaf performer to win an Oscar in 1987 for her work in 'Children of a Lesser God.'
Riz Ahmed, a British-Pakistani actor, became the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar for his performance in Aneil Karia's live-action short film The Long Goodbye.
While Joseph Patel, of Indian heritage, who produced 'Summer of Soul,' became the 10th South Asian to receive an Academy Award after the film won the Oscar for best documentary feature.
